The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the deadline for free Aadhaar updates on its official platform, myAadhaar. Originally scheduled to end on December 14, 2024, the new deadline allows residents to update their demographic details online without charge until June 14, 2025.
This extension is designed to encourage Aadhaar holders, particularly those who haven't updated their information in over a decade, to ensure their Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) documents are accurate. Maintaining current details is essential for seamless access to government services and schemes.
Starting June 15, 2025, Aadhaar updates will no longer be free, and requests made at physical centres will incur a fee of Rs 50 per update, aligning with the current offline update charges.
Steps to update Aadhaar online:
Residents can easily update their Aadhaar details via the myAadhaar portal:
1. Log in with your Aadhaar number; an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile.
2. Upload scanned copies of valid PoI and PoA documents.
3. Submit your request and receive a 14-digit Update Request Number (URN) to track your update.
Guide to updating your address online
Updating your address is also simple through the Aadhaar self-service update portal:
1. Visit the portal and log in using your Aadhaar number, registered mobile number, and OTP.
2. Select "Proceed to Update Address."
3. Enter your new address and upload a valid PoA document.
4. Submit the request and receive a URN for status tracking.
Once processed, the updated Aadhaar card can be downloaded directly from the portal.
Reasons to update your Aadhaar
UIDAI has continuously encouraged Aadhaar holders to keep their details current, especially those whose cards were issued over ten years ago. Accurate information ensures smoother transactions and reliable access to welfare benefits. The extended free update window provides an opportunity for residents to make necessary changes online and ensure that Aadhaar remains an effective and trusted identification tool.
