Gartner maps emerging deepfake detection market, names startups driving enterprise adoption

As AI-generated deepfakes become increasingly sophisticated, Gartner has identified a new generation of startups that it believes will shape the future of enterprise deepfake detection, signaling that the technology is moving rapidly from niche research to mainstream cybersecurity.
In its latest Emerging Market Quadrant for Deepfake Detection — Startup Vendors, Gartner describes deepfake detection as an emerging cybersecurity discipline designed to detect, analyze and perform forensics on manipulated or AI-generated images, audio, video and live interactions intended to deceive or spread disinformation. The firm said enterprises should begin evaluating continuous, forensic-grade deepfake detection capabilities as part of their broader cybersecurity strategy.
The report places Reality Defender, GetReal Security and IdentifAI in its highest "Market Shapers" category, recognizing them for combining strong technology innovation with growing execution capabilities. Resemble AI and Clarity are categorized as "Pace Setters," while Netarx, DeepTrust and Deep Media are identified as "Pioneers." The "Specialists" quadrant includes pi-labs, Truepic, DuckDuckGoose AI, DeepXL and Truly.
According to Gartner, the market remains immature, with startups leading innovation through diverse approaches ranging from multimodal forensic analysis and cryptographic verification to endpoint protection and domain-specific detection. The analyst firm expects the market to evolve beyond standalone detection tools into broader digital trust platforms integrated with identity, communications and cybersecurity technologies.
