The Indian government's cybersecurity agency, CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team), has released a high-risk warning for Google Chrome users. In their latest advisory note, CERT-In has highlighted multiple vulnerabilities present in Google Chrome versions for both Windows and Mac operating systems. These vulnerabilities have been marked with a severity rating of HIGH, indicating the significant risk they pose to users' security.
CERT-In's Vulnerability Note CIVN-2024-0085 details multiple vulnerabilities discovered within the Google Chrome browser. If exploited by malicious actors (hackers), these vulnerabilities could grant them unauthorised access to steal sensitive data or even take complete control of your system.
According to CERT-In, attackers could exploit these vulnerabilities by sending a specially crafted webpage to your system. Once the user accesses this malicious webpage, the vulnerabilities within Chrome can be leveraged by the cyber attackers to carry out various forms of attacks, such as executing arbitrary code or rendering the system inaccessible through a DoS attack.
On a positive note, Google has already released security updates to address these vulnerabilities. Hence, CERT-In has urged users to update their Google Chrome with the latest update released by Google. To update the browser- Open your Chrome browser and click on the three vertical dots in the top right corner. Go to "Settings" > "About Chrome."
If an update is available, it will download and install automatically. Once finished, restart your browser for the changes to take effect.
