Huawei and LG Uplus have jointly announced that they have completed the world’s first commercial network field trail of three different band Carrier Aggregation (3CC CA). LG Uplus currently has 7.5 million LTE subscribers across three commercial LTE network bandwidths of 800 MHz, 2100 MHz and 2600 MHz. After several successful trials were conducted in the lab and via un-commercialized networks, this is the world’s first commercial network field trial based on commercial 800 MHz (10 MHz), 2100 MHz (10 MHz) and 2600 MHz (20 MHz) bandwidths, with 300 Mbps peak throughput.
As a key LTE-Advanced technology, CA combines two or more basic bands to meet higher throughput demand and efficiently deliver ultra-fast data speeds, strengthening overall network capacity and providing a more seamless user experience. The technology will be supported by 3CC CA technology compatible smartphones later this year.
Choi Taek-jin, Vice-President, LG Uplus, said, “In May 2014, LG Uplus was awarded the Global Telecoms Business (GTB) Innovation award for its LTE network with LTE-A HetNet and Carrier Aggregation. LG Uplus’ successful joint completion of this 3 band carrier aggregation field trial with Huawei, proves their combined influence in LTE-A technology and commitment to technology innovation.”
After LG Uplus and Huawei jointly demonstrated the world’s first 3CC CA solution at the Mobile World Congress 2014, LG Uplus then completed the commercial use of 3CC CA and now plans to deploy advanced technologies such as Intelligent Carrier Aggregation to provide better user experiences.
