Microsoft has recently acknowledged a critical bug in the latest Windows 11 24H2 update that is preventing some users from receiving essential security updates. This revelation has raised concerns among users and businesses alike, as it directly impacts the integrity of their systems and leaves them vulnerable to potential cyber threats.
The issue lies within the update delivery mechanism for the 24H2 version of Windows 11, which is causing a conflict that restricts certain systems from downloading and installing security patches. According to Microsoft's official communication, this bug specifically affects devices running specific configurations, including older hardware or systems using certain third-party security software.
The inability to receive timely security updates exposes systems to a variety of risks, such as malware, ransomware attacks, and unauthorized access. Businesses relying on Windows 11 24H2 for their operations could face increased cybersecurity challenges, potentially resulting in data breaches or operational disruptions.
Microsoft has assured users that its development team is actively investigating the issue and working on a fix. A temporary workaround has been shared for affected users, which involves manual installation of updates through the Microsoft Update Catalog. However, this method may not be feasible for all users, especially those managing large fleets of devices.
To fix the issue, Microsoft recommends that you rewrite the Windows 11 installation media with the latest December 2024 patch and reinstall Windows. The tech giant also added that they are “working on a resolution”, but did not say on when it will be available.
