Netflix will no longer support iOS 16-running iPhones and iPads. The app advises users to update to iOS 17 in order to continue using it, with the message "To use the latest version, install iOS 17 or later." The exact timeline for when the app will cease functioning on older devices remains unclear.
While users can currently dismiss this alert and continue using the app, it is expected to stop functioning in due course. Netflix's decision to end support for older devices is part of a broader strategy to concentrate on newer software versions. The latest update to the Netflix app for iOS includes a warning about this impending change.
The devices that will be impacted by this change include iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPad 5 (2017), and the first-generation iPad Pro. These models are unable to upgrade to iOS 17 or iPadOS 17.
Despite this setback, users with these devices can still access Netflix via a web browser. This ensures they won't be entirely disconnected from the service due to app compatibility issues.
