Nishant Goyal Sales Manager – South-East Asia, NVIDIA
NVIDIA is the world leader in visual computing technologies and inventor of GPU, a high-performance processor which generates breathtaking, interactive graphics on workstations, personal computers, game consoles, and mobile devices. It serves the entertainment and consumer market with its GeForce products, the professional design and visualization market with its Quadro products, and the high-performance computing market with its Tesla products. Nishant Goyal, Sales Manager – South-East Asia, NVIDIA, speaks to VARIndia on the potential of graphics card market in India. Excerpts...
How do you see the market for graphics cards doing in India?
The GPU market in India is doing quite well, considering the overall scenario we have in the current economy. Our business remains strong and we believe that is chiefly because of our philosophy of Graphics Plus – which means that the GPU is not just about gaming but is about providing a delightful and super-fast computing experience.
What are the verticals that are driving the growth of graphics cards?
We believe in Graphics Plus, which means that our GPUs today do more than just gaming. With our CUDA platform, our GPUs provide heart-stopping speed up to all kinds of applications – whether it is cancer research or converting videos for your iPod, the GPU is accelerating everything by 20–30–100 even a 1,000 times!
Adobe now uses GPU acceleration in their new CS4, Apple uses our GPUs in their entire line of Macbooks and, of course, Vista is the most 3D Windows version ever!
What are the opportunities for vendors?
With the expansion in the GPUs role from doing just graphics to Graphics Plus, this is the best time for the vendors to be selling NVIDIA GPUs. With our CUDA technology, they can offer solutions to a variety of customers over and above the gamers that they have been selling to. They could offer solutions to architects, doctors, science researchers, PhD/MS students, animators, designers, videographers, video professionals, photographers and many more. The list is frankly endless. The GPU today does so much more and this is a huge opportunity for our vendors to differentiate themselves and create their own place in the market.
What kind of volume you are selling in India? What is your market share?
Our customers have rewarded us for our innovativeness with their loyalty. We continue to enjoy over 80-per cent market on the GPU side. Unfortunately, we do not share absolute volume figures. What is your go-to-market strategy? Our go-to-market strategy is to provide products and technologies that give the end- users a delightful experience. Whether it is SLI, CUDA, PHYSX or even the upcoming 3D Vision, we literally invent and bring forth technologies that help our partners differentiate themselves. We want to build more intrinsic value into our GPUs. We always believe in providing the right value instead of just focussing on the price.
How will the market grow?
The market will continue to grow as more and more people start understanding that the value that the GPU brings is not just about games anymore but more about the overall computing experience.
One of the important trends we have seen is that people are beginning to understand the value of heterogeneous computing and visual computing. The fastest computer for any budget can be built with the right combination of a GPU and a CPU. In fact, if you buy a lower-end CPU and also buy a slightly higher-end GPU, the performance of your PC will go through the roof! And here’s the kicker’– this will cost you absolutely the same or in fact sometimes even LESS!
What are the challenges before you and how do you plan to overcome them?
The biggest challenge before us is to continue to invent and bring significant innovations to our partners and customers. We will strive to make GPU even more important to the computing community.
