Oracle's Co-Founder Larry Ellison poked Amazon Web Services indirectly over the recent outage of AWS, saying that the main differentiating factor between Oracle and other cloud infrastructure providers is that Oracle cloud never goes down.
He said, “From a very large telecommunications company who uses our cloud and all the other three North American clouds Google, Amazon and Microsoft, the one thing we’ve noticed about Oracle’s cloud is that it never ever goes down. We can’t say that about any of the other clouds. We think this is a critical differentiator.”
He further said while competitors like Amazon build a small number of large data centers, Oracle's strategy is to build a large number of smaller, less expensive data centers. Oracle's strategy improves reliability, because one data center going down will not result in the widespread outage Amazon experienced.
Ellison’s statement comes days after Amazon Web Services experienced a major outage taking down several websites and services, including its own delivery tools. Users were unable to access Netflix, Disney+, and Ring smart-home systems that store data in AWS. Some Ring users said the outage resulted in stolen packages and disruptions in home security.
