The Modi government is going to announce the budget for 2020-21 to formulate and monitor policy metrics aimed at bringing about a quick change in the Indian economy.
According to sources for the last few days, the Prime Minister has been brainstorming issues affecting the economy and ending appropriate policy interventions. He has held 12 meetings with groups of industrialists and experts so far. Each group with 10-12 people has one meeting scheduled and has been held for three hours and more. This is the most comprehensive consultation that Modi has taken in the last five years on matters related to the Union budget and economy.
These meetings have increased further in the last six to seven days and many of these meetings are scheduled to run for 10-11 hours with the ministries - which start at 9 am and run till 10 pm on most days. Each ministry has been asked to prepare a five-year vision and the Prime Minister is personally reviewing each plan.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman may present the budget for 2020-21 on 1 February and will announce steps for the economy that are projected to grow at 5 percent in 2019-20.
