Praveen Khandelwal appraises Union Commerce Minister on the e-commerce Violations
While presenting a detailed memorandum containing concerns of the business community on present scenario of highly vitiated e commerce landscape of the Country.
Praveen Khandelwal, Secretary General, CAIT urged the Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal to clarify the current e commerce norms in order to ensure even level playing field for all stakeholders and also ensure that corrective actions should be made to ensure that no e commerce company whether small or big, Indian or foreign funded should not dare to violate the law under any circumstances and must not treat India as a dumping yard. It has been observed that several foreign funded e commerce companies are continuously violating not only the FDI policy of the Government but also the FEMA Act.
They consider India as a banana republic where laws are weak and they can twist the laws to their convenience . These e commerce companies should be given a strong lesson that no one is above the law. Minister Goyal while giving a patient hearing reiterated that every one in India has to follow the rules and regulations and the Government is committed to protect the interest of small traders of India. The Government is already seized of the matter and seriously considering all aspects.
He firmly said that the policy and the rules prescribed for e commerce have to be obeyed by one and all both in letter and spirit. However, he advised the traders to afoot and accept technology in their existing business format of retail trade which is the need of the hour. He further said that who ever is doing business through e commerce have to conduct business activities within the rules and regulations and under no circumstances should influence the customers . The Government is committed for working of e commerce vertical of trade by obeying the prescribed laws and rules.
