TCIL has recently opened its office in the United States, and has partnered with technology giant Google to deploy fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), and sees similar potential opportunities with the American telecom giants such as AT&T and Sprint. It is a very important position,where the selection process is very much competitive and the selected official for the top most position has to deliver the results underlined by the Government.
The competition among Kamendra Kumar, director - technical in the Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL) and Rajiv Gupta, Director - Projects at TCIL, is a senior-most candidate with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from the Delhi College of Engineering and has worked with multiple public sector undertakings such as Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and MTNL. Gupta will superannuate on July 31, 2021 are the top contenders for the role of Chairman-and-Managing Director (CMD) at the government-run consultancy and engineering firm, following the superannuation of A Seshagiri Rao on 31st August 2019.
Rao was appointed to the top post at TCIL in august 2017 from RAILTEL, which has expanded its multinational operations with a presence in nearly 80 countries including pan African spread today. The company is expected to post a 30% higher revenue this fiscal and has a strong order book.
Kamendra Kumar has Joined as a general manager (GM), engineering from IIT Roorkee, and started his career as a Scientist B at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) under India's Missile Man APJ Abdul Kalam who later served as an Indian president from 2002 to 2007. Kumar has techno-commercial expertise with more than a three-decade of experience and has previously worked within the organisation in various capacities such as the Chief General Manager (CGM), Chief Public Information Officer and Executive Director (ED).
As per the record, In April 2019, Kumar was interviewed by the Public Enterprise Selection Board (PESB), along with Narendra Jain, Director (Finance) at TCIL, Swapan Kumar Gorai, Director- Finance at KIOCL Limited, Sanjeev Kumar, Director (Technical) at Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) and Atul Kumar Rastogi, ED at TCIL. However, the PESB did not shortlist any candidate and recommended the telecom department to choose a further course of action for selection.
