Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot has recently made a controversial statement when asked by reporters to speak up on Kota’s increasing infant deaths in hospitals.
According to a report by superintendent of a hospital, among all deaths, 77 infants died this month till December 24 itself, and around 940 infants died this year. When Ashok Gehlot was questioned on this, he said that ‘deaths tend to occur; this is not the first time’ (Mautein hoti reheti hai, ismein koi nayi baat nahi hai)!
After his statement, the BJP party expressed its anger. Rajasthan BJP President Satish Poonia said that Ashok Gehlot government has shown” insensitivity” to the deaths of 10 infants within 48 hours at a city hospital by not sending any of its ministers here to take stock of the situation.
Expressing concern over the deaths, Poonia expressed displeasure over the poor infrastructure and lack of maintenance and insufficient nursing and medical. The state BJP would send two of its health ministers and experts to collect more information on the deaths.
Poonia announced for 50 lakh assistance for improvement and maintenance of the hospital and targeted the state government for being careless and irresponsible.
