Reliance Communications Q2 revenue down 4%
2016-11-15Reliance Communications (RCOM) second quarter revenue reached Rs 5,142 crore and was down by 4 percent thanks to increase in competitive intensity and migration of CDMA customers to 4G.
Even RCOMs EBITDA was down 1 per cent whereas PAT was down by 28 percent for Q2, FY2016-17.
The company has done well on the data front. Total data traffic was at 104.8 billion MB and is up 2 per cent quarter-on-quarter, Even data usage per subscriber has increased to 944 MB which is up 8 per cent quarter-on-quarter. As per second quarter results, RCOM had 35.1 million data customers including 24.5 million 3G/4G customers.
India revenue for RCOM was Rs 4,488 crore, down 4 per cent from Rs 4,693 crore whereas global revenue at Rs 1,089 crore was also down 8 per cent from Rs 1,185 crore in Q1.The total data traffic at 104.8 billion MB is up over 8% Y-o-Y and the increase in data traffic is mainly due to increase in data usage per subscribers.
In the second quarter, Reliance launched an innovative location based safety service, Reliance Spottr that will empower customers to ascertain safety and security of near and dear ones, while they are mobile.
With this service, an RCOM customer can find location of upto five RCOM mobile numbers anywhere in India after securing consent from them. There are multiple utility scenarios for the service, like parents knowing location of kids returning from school, friends returning from a party, travel location of elderly parents, or SMEs tracking field force. The service is available on USSD as well as on WAP for the entire gamut of customers having feature-phones or smartphones. Subscription to Spottr service is available at a very attractive subscription fee of Rs10 for 10 days.
RCOM also launched Reliance Games arcade with a collection of more than 300 premium games. Reliance Games Arcade is an own branded games store powered by Opera and has collection of premium games from International and Indian developers. Reliance subscribers, both prepaid and postpaid, can now access this store at Rs 15 for 10 days on auto renewal.
