R&M all set to become a Gigabit Society FTTH
2014-08-12Innovative cabling systems such as the Single Circuit Management (SCM) System from R&M satisfy the network operators' requirements and simplify entry into FTTH projects.
Network operators, municipal utilities and municipalities on all continents are currently planning fiber-optic networks that extend all the way into homes (Fiber To The Home = FTTH). They have concluded that copper networks are hitting the limits of their capacity. Ever greater bandwidth and improved transmission technology are needed to accommodate growing data traffic, new value-added services and multimedia products on the Internet.
Most countries and network operators are just now entering the fiber-optic era. They are looking for fast, efficient and inexpensive ways to handle the generational change. Installation and operating costs have to remain manageable. People are looking for field-terminated solutions that can be implemented on a large scale. The management of huge quantities of optical fibers must be easy and operate error free.
SCM standardizes fiber management at every network level all the way to the house connection. Fast-installation technique and modular design, clear labelling and simple handling are four prime characteristics of the connection and distribution system from R&M. Unique: The minimum bending radius of 40mm so crucial for performance is guaranteed throughout.
The system can be flexibly adjusted and pre-terminated. It fully supports hybrid infrastructures in drop, feeder and access areas and the successive migration from copper to fiber-optic cabling. The transition to vertical building cabling can be solved elegantly. That increases the acceptance of FTTH on the part of installers, home owners and customers.
