Samsung Electronics has appointed Roh Tae-moon as the acting head of its consumer and smartphone business following the demise of his predecessor and former co-CEO Han Jong-hee. The leadership transition comes as Samsung navigates a competitive smartphone market while focusing on strengthening its semiconductor division.
Roh, 56, has led Samsung’s mobile division since 2020, spearheading innovations in AI in smartphones and foldable devices. In his expanded role, the Samsung mobile chief will oversee the Device eXperience (DX) division, which includes Samsung’s smartphone, TV, and home appliance businesses. His interim appointment is part of the company’s strategy to maintain stability and drive future growth in consumer electronics.
Samsung has yet to determine whether it will continue with its previous co-CEO structure. A company spokesperson reportedly stated that the board will evaluate the leadership framework and make a decision in due course.

In addition to Roh’s appointment, Samsung has announced further executive changes to strengthen its leadership team. Choi Won-joon, a former Qualcomm executive and current head of research and development for the mobile division, has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer of the DX division.
Meanwhile, Kim Cheol-gi, previously head of marketing for the DX division, has been named the new head of Samsung’s digital appliance business, overseeing products such as refrigerators and washing machines.
Samsung emphasized that these executive appointments aim to minimize disruptions and maintain momentum in the DX division. With the smartphone head Roh Tae-moon at the helm, the company is expected to continue advancing technological innovation and reinforcing its position as a global leader in consumer electronics.
