Natural language understanding (NLU) and Natural language generation (NLG), the foundation to ChatGPT, can benefit significantly from Sanskrit’s structured approach. Sanskrit words often encapsulate complex meanings within a single term, offering insights into creating better compression algorithms for semantic representation in AI.
Furthermore, its extensive use of root words (dhatus) provides a clear framework for handling polysemous (multiple-meaning) words, a challenge for most NLP models.The language’s flexibility is unparalleled. Unlike Latin, which allows three ways to tag a word, Sanskrit offers five, enabling dynamic sentence construction.
This tagging system evolved to ensure accuracy in oral communication and memory retention, as seen in mantras.
Mantras, often poetic praises of life and wisdom, were designed for rhythmic recitation, making them memorable and impactful. Sanskrit’s linguistic playfulness shines in examples like sŧûŧi (praise) + manŧra (hymn), which aligns with the English "statement," or Çaçtam (sixth), hinting at "system," as systems often have six components.
An U.S. language lab discovered that new-borns have the potential to master eight languages, resonating with the Sanskrit concept of Açtä-vadh-änam—thinking in eight domains simultaneously.
This adaptability underscores Sanskrit’s resilience, with millennia-old texts preserved with minimal error.
Sanskrit’s deep linguistic structure extends to intelligence (bûđđhi), encompassing 16 interconnected systems, only one of which is memory. Integrating Sanskrit-inspired principles into ChatGPT could result in more robust, context-aware, and ethically grounded AI, unlocking new possibilities for AI to serve humanity.
