This move is a significant milestone in India’s journey toward self-reliance in semiconductor manufacturing and aligns with the government’s vision to make the country a global hub for electronics and semiconductor production.
Suchi Semicon, a prominent player in India’s semiconductor industry, has inaugurated its new Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Testing (OSAT) facility in Surat, Gujarat. The facility, set up with an investment of $100 million, was inaugurated last week. It already has a customer onboard, with semiconductor production set to begin for this client.
The new facility, equipped with advanced technology, will focus on high-precision assembly and rigorous testing of semiconductor chips, catering to various industries, including automotive, telecommunications, consumer electronics, and renewable energy. By providing end-to-end services, the plant aims to reduce reliance on imports, ensuring faster turnaround times and cost efficiencies for Indian and international clients.
During the inauguration ceremony, company executives emphasized their commitment to supporting India’s growing demand for semiconductors. They highlighted the role of the OSAT facility in enhancing India’s global competitiveness in chip manufacturing and addressing the challenges of supply chain disruptions witnessed during the pandemic.
“We have one customer and three potential customers. In the semiconductor world, the process works such that you need to establish a factory first, and then customers follow. We are confident we will generate some revenue within this fiscal year,” said Shetal Mehta, Co-founder of Suchi Semicon.

The company is launching the facility with a pilot line capable of producing 300,000 chips daily. The OSAT plant marks a pivotal step in strengthening India’s semiconductor ecosystem, paving the way for the country to emerge as a key player in the global semiconductor supply chain.
Industry experts believe that Suchi Semicon’s investment in Surat will boost employment opportunities, foster local talent development, and encourage technological innovation in the region. The facility is also expected to attract further investments in Gujarat, solidifying its reputation as a preferred destination for high-tech industries.
