Sunny Opotech, Apple iPhone’s camera supplier, will set up a camera manufacturing facility in India with an investment of $300 million. Apple has been moving its production to countries outside of China and is already manufacturing the latest iPhone 14 in India. It also added a second manufacturer to boost iPhone production in India.
Apple also recently revealed its plans to manufacture MacBooks in Vietnam. Sunny Opotech is a China-based optical manufacturing company which makes camera modules for phones, cars and more.
According to a report, Sunny Opotech has entered into an agreement with Apple to establish a camera manufacturing facility in India worth $300 million. Welly Liu, President of Sunny Opotech said that it will roll out this project in multiple phases till 2026 but hasn’t yet decided on the location of this proposed Sunny Optical Technology factory.
Sunny Opotech has a factory in Tirupati where it currently manufactures camera modules for smartphones. The upcoming Sunny Opotech facility will begin operations in 2024 and will remain exclusive to Apple. After the initial test run, the Sunny Opotech factory will begin mass production for Apple products.
The first Apple Store in India is expected to open sometime in Q1 2023 in the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai. Shortly after, Apple will inaugurate its second retail store which is expected to be located in Saket, Delhi.
