Veteran actor Chiranjeevi has lodged a formal complaint with the Hyderabad cybercrime unit after AI-generated deepfake videos featuring his likeness surfaced on adult websites. According to his filing, these fabricated clips depict him in obscene acts, causing “severe and irreparable harm” to his reputation as well as emotional distress to his family.
In the complaint, Chiranjeevi emphasized that the videos were entirely fake, created using sophisticated artificial-intelligence techniques to morph his face into pornographic content, and were shared across multiple websites in a coordinated fashion. He accused the perpetrators of organised misconduct aimed at tarnishing his goodwill built over decades in the public eye.
The Hyderabad cyber-crime police have registered a case under multiple legal provisions, including Sections 67 and 67A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986. Investigation is underway to trace the websites, uploaders, and affiliates responsible for distributing the content.
This action follows a recent interim court order protecting Chiranjeevi’s name, image and likeness from unauthorised use. The actor has urged authorities to immediately block and remove all related content, including mirrored versions, and pursue legal action against all parties involved.
The case highlights growing concerns over the misuse of AI in manufacturing non-consensual deepfake pornography, particularly targeting public figures. Chiranjeevi’s complaint underscores both the reputational risks and regulatory challenges posed by such technology-enabled abuses.
