Digital, the digital arm of Tata Son’s, is in its early stage of talks with Just Dial, the online classifieds company, to sign a strategic deal or it may also buy stake. This step is in line with the Tata group’s intention to beef up its presence in e-commerce.
the group has reportedly acquired 68% in BigBasket for Rs 9,500 crore. The deal assumes significance because the conglomerate is building a super-app that will offer a wide range of items under one roof. Tata Digital has held multiple discussions with several partners as it wants to finalise its ‘Super App’. According to industry experts, in India the competition in the online retail segment will rise with the entry of the Tatas.
As per news source, talks between both the companies are in the initial stage and a final result was not imminent. “Both sides have met for discussions, but it is too early to say anything has been finalised. A lot also depends on how things evolve between the two parties,” a news source quoted a senior Tata official who was familiar with the discussion as saying. Mumbai-based Tata Sons’ mergers and acquisitions team has been compiling a list of probable alliances they can close to provide Tata Digital that the big expansion and reach required in the online consumer segment.
