Speaking at the DIPA event on ‘Gati Shakti Vision for 5G and Beyond’, Telecom and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the telecom operators and other stakeholders will have to pull the quality of service significantly, as the government has rolled out multiple reforms to transform telecom industry into a sunrise industry.
The minister also asked the telecom regulatory authority of India to float a consultation paper to try improving the quality of service by three or four times of what it presently is.
The Union Minister said, "I will be requesting the Department (Telecom Department) to send a new consultation paper to TRAI for significantly increasing the quality of service parameters almost making 3X or 4X of what it is today, so whatever is the quality of service we are seeing, should now improve significantly.”
The Minister further said that the journey of 5G is going to be very exciting and noted that many countries took multiple years to reach 40 per cent to 50 per cent coverage adding that the government is targeting a very aggressive timeline and has given a target of 80 per cent coverage in the short time frame.
