Telit unveils GE866-QUAD 2G Cellular Module
2013-10-09
Telit Wireless Solutions has introduced the company’s smallest and first 2G-cellular module to employ leading-edge “Conformal Coating” encasing technology. The product which also incorporates a Python Script Language interpreter is capable of running customer applications internally without the need for additional electronics, and delivers a fully functional cellular connected customer application from a 227 mm² footprint which is about half the size of a standard SIM card.
The launch of the GE866-QUAD puts Telit in the lead of M2M miniaturization in two pivotal areas: cellular modules and positioning, which we have led since the launch of the SE880 GPS receiver in 2012. It also marks the first time the new technology of Conformal Coating is used in our cellular modules, which makes them substantially stronger, more environmentally robust and lighter. When you add these characteristics to long-term availability ensured by the use of newest release of GSM/GPRS chipset, it is very likely that the GE866-QUAD will enable the whole new classes of applications in verticals we don’t even imagine at this point, said Dominikus Hierl, Chief Marketing Officer, Telit Wireless Solutions.
Targeted at the worldwide GSM market, the 850/900/1800/1900MHz quad-band GSM/GPRS engine in the GE866-QUAD is voice-capable supporting both analog and digital (DVI) interfaces. It delivers GPRS class 10, 3GPP Release 4 compliant data communications and is equipped with a high-speed ITU-T V.24 UART interface, seven I/O ports and an A/D-D/A converter. For streamlined application development and system integration, the company offers RIL drives for all major operating systems.
