The PlayStation Network (PSN) is suffering a global outage, with subscribers complaining that they can no longer play online games or access the company's website. When attempting to access PSN, users are greeted with errors stating, "The connection to the server timed out" or "An error has occurred."
The PlayStation Network status page has confirmed the outage, while further stating that it impacts all services, including account management, gaming and social services.
The service page indicated that the outage affected several categories, including "Other, PS Vita, PS3, PS4, PS5, and Web." This disruption impacted both gaming and network features on PSN, preventing users from accessing multiplayer games and even single-player games that required an online connection.
The error encountered by some users was identified as “PS5 error Code WS-116522-7,” which Sony’s error webpage attributed to a system software update failure. Although, offline games that don’t require an online connection still worked fine.
As of now, Sony has not provided any details regarding the cause of the outage or an estimated timeframe for resolution. Players are encouraged to stay tuned for updates from Sony, which has stated, “We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.”
