Tim Cook inaugurates Apple’s first store in Mumbai, company’s India sales touches $6 billion
2023-04-18In the Financial year 2023, Apple Inc has recorded sales of $6 billion in the India market. This highlights the potential of the Indian market a day before Apple CEO Tim Cook launches its first store in Mumbai.
According to a media report, a person aware of the matter said that the revenue of Apple jumped by almost 50% from $4.1 billion in the financial year 2023. On May 4, the tech giant may announce its quarterly earnings and has signaled that it expects total global revenue to decline.
The Apple CEO greeted customers who visited the store. It is located at the BKC business district in Mumbai. The store is being launched as the company marks 25 years in the country.
Cook will also attend the opening of Apple’s second store in Saket, Delhi on April 20. As per news reports, he will also meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"India has such a beautiful culture and an incredible energy, and we're excited to build on our long-standing history -- supporting our customers, investing in local communities, and working together to build a better future with innovations that serve humanity," Cook said in a statement.
The company's senior vice president for retail Deirdre O'Brien told reporters that a lot of attention has been given to Apple's key beliefs of sustainability and inclusivity, and pointed out that the 100-strong team which will be on the floor will be speaking 18 Indian languages.
In India, Apple has 2,500 employees and has indirectly helped create 10 lakh jobs through its app ecosystem, she said.
