Twitter has confirmed it is working on an edit button. The company said it would initialise the testing with Twitter Blue subscribers first and then roll out the feature widely.
Developer Manchun Wong has said, “looks like Twitter's approach to Edit Tweet is immutable, as in, instead of mutating the Tweet text within the same Tweet, it re-creates a new Tweet with the amended content, along with the list of the old Tweets prior to that edit.”
Twitter spokesperson Anna Hubatsch said that there was nothing else to share at the moment, beyond what is in this Tweet from @TwitterComms and this Tweet from @JaySullivan, VP of Consumer Product.
It is worth noting that for now it is unknown if the tweet history will appear exclusively for the users or it will be public for others to see.
Earlier this month, Twitter officially announced about working on the coveted edit button, following which Tesla CEO Elon Musk polled his followers about an edit button after becoming Twitter’s largest individual shareholder. Since then, there has been a turmoil of events with Musk joining and leaving Twitter’s board of directors, and then offering to buy the entire company. Twitter shareholders are currently attempting to block Musk’s buyout with the poison pill method.
