Key Highlights

  1. Enhanced B2B security:Ā Visa introduces stronger controls for commercial virtual-card transactions.

  2. Supplier verification:Ā New validation capabilities help confirm payments reach intended beneficiaries.

  3. AI-powered analytics:Ā SESA 2.0 identifies potential supplier opportunities and commercial card growth.

Announced on October 21, 2026, the initiative combines AI-powered supplier analytics, commercial virtual-card fraud prevention and autonomous payment capabilities, reflecting Visa's expanding ambitions beyond traditional card processing.

A major component isĀ Visa Commercial Fraud Solutions, designed to help businesses validate suppliers, authenticate payment users and establish stronger safeguards before transactions receive approval.

The platform introduces supplier validation to verify intended beneficiaries, 3-D Secure authentication for commercial virtual cards, and transaction controls covering spending limits, merchant categories, geographical locations and payment timing.

Visa has also introducedĀ Supplier Enablement Spend Analytics (SESA) 2.0, incorporating AI-driven supplier scoring, commercial payment data and predictive modelling to identify opportunities for expanding commercial card acceptance.

According to Visa, its supplier analytics technology has helped financial institutions identify more thanĀ $600 billion in potential card-eligible spendingĀ since its introduction in 2021, highlighting opportunities for digitising corporate payments.

Another significant development is Visa's collaboration with BILL and Billtrust to pilot trusted AI agents capable of completing previously approved invoice payments through supplier portals without requiring repeated manual intervention.

The initiative uses Visa's Trusted Agent Protocol and tokenised payment credentials to authenticate autonomous agents, verify their authority and ensure transactions follow established business rules.

The strategic challenge is ensuring that autonomous payment execution does not compromise financial accountability.Ā Banks and enterprises must address agent impersonation, unauthorised transactions, compromised credentials and weaknesses in cross-platform authentication.

Visa's latest initiative signals a broader transformation of financial infrastructure, where AI-driven automation must operate within continuous verification and enforceable transaction controls.Ā For India's expanding digital payments ecosystem, the development highlights opportunities to strengthen enterprise payment security, reduce fraud exposure and establish trusted frameworks for agentic commerce.

The future of business payments will depend not merely on automation, but on establishing verifiable trust between buyers, suppliers, financial institutions and autonomous AI agents.
