This new WhatsApp music feature aims to make the platform more engaging for users who love music and want to share their favourite tunes in an interactive way
Messaging platform WhatsApp is gearing up to introduce a new feature that will allow users to add music to their status updates, a function already popular on Instagram. The WhatsApp music feature is currently being tested with select Android and iOS beta users and is expected to be rolled out to a broader audience soon.
This addition aims to enhance the experience of messaging apps, particularly for those who enjoy expressing themselves through WhatsApp Status music tracks. With music integration, WhatsApp updates are set to become even more dynamic and personalized.
How the new music feature works
With this upcoming WhatsApp update, users will be able to add music tracks to both photos and videos shared as status updates. When creating a status update, a music button will appear in the drawing editor, allowing users to browse through a wide music library, similar to Instagram's. From there, they can select their favourite music tracks or artists and choose a specific segment of the song to accompany their status update. For photo updates, the music clip can last up to 15 seconds, while video status updates will play music for the duration of the video.

Additionally, when viewers see the WhatsApp Status music tracks, they will be able to see the song name and artist details, with an option to explore the artist’s profile on Instagram. This integration fosters music discovery and deepens the connection between both platforms.
The WhatsApp music sharing feature is already available to a select group of beta testers and is expected to be rolled out more widely in the coming weeks. This update is likely to be a hit among users who enjoy sharing status updates regularly and are passionate about incorporating music into their social interactions.
