OnePlus’ AI strategy centres on “OnePlus AI,” a personal intelligence assistant that evolves from multimodal capabilities to personalized and eventually autonomous, agentic AI, aiming for seamless integration into the user experience
OnePlus has revealed its latest advancements in generative artificial intelligence, positioning these innovations as key drivers for smartphone upgrades. The company announced its plans on May 27, highlighting a user-centric approach that avoids fragmented or overly complex AI implementations, often dubbed ‘Frankenstein AI.’ These developments are set to debut with the upcoming global launch of the OnePlus 13s, expected early next month.
Central to OnePlus’ AI strategy is the introduction of “OnePlus AI,” a personal intelligence assistant designed to seamlessly integrate into the user experience. The roadmap for this AI ecosystem envisions a transition from multimodal AI—capable of understanding various inputs—to personalized AI, and ultimately to an autonomous, agentic AI future.
AI-powered tools for everyday tasks
One of the standout features launching with the OnePlus 13s is AI Plus Mind. This function allows users to capture and save on-screen information such as schedules, events, and reservations simply by pressing the newly introduced Plus Key or swiping up with three fingers. AI Plus Mind intelligently collects data from multiple apps, offers smart suggestions, and enables users to search their saved content later. For example, users can point the camera at text—like a magazine article—and instantly extract and summarize the content via the Plus Key, a customizable button dedicated to organizing on-screen data efficiently.
Additional AI-powered enhancements will be incorporated into OxygenOS, OnePlus’ proprietary operating system. These include AI VoiceScribe, which generates call summaries, and expanded live translation support for popular communication platforms like WhatsApp and Zoom. OnePlus has also unified all its translation tools into a single app, providing live, camera, screen translation, and face-to-face conversation modes for ease of use.
A key element behind these AI experiences is the integration of Google Gemini technology, which facilitates cross-app task execution and contextual assistance within OnePlus apps.
Privacy-first AI experience ahead
Privacy remains a core focus for OnePlus, which has developed a Private Computing Cloud to securely manage sensitive user data. The company balances cloud and on-device processing to safeguard privacy and complies fully with regional regulations, including those in India and the European Union. While some data processing currently occurs in the cloud, OnePlus emphasizes that information like that handled by Plus Mind is ultimately stored locally on the device, with plans to increase on-device processing as hardware evolves.
This strategic blend of advanced AI features and privacy protections aims to enhance user convenience while building trust, setting the stage for a new era of intelligent smartphone interaction.
