Identity verification startup 1Kosmos has secured $57 million in Series B funding to advance its AI-driven authentication technology, strengthen multi-cloud resilience, and expand a specialized federal government practice. Led by former Simeio CEO Hemen Vimadalal, the New York-area firm will split the investment evenly between go-to-market expansion and research and development.
Founded in 2018, 1Kosmos uses AI-powered biometrics, behavioral analysis, and contextual data to deliver passwordless, deterministic identity verification with cryptographic proof. Its decentralized identity architecture combines government-issued documents, biometric markers, and behavioral patterns to create a secure digital fingerprint. Vimadalal emphasized that voice authentication is vulnerable to AI-enabled impersonation, making advanced biometric and behavioral signals critical to preventing fraud.
The funding round, led by Forgepoint Capital and Oquirrh Ventures, will support 1Kosmos’ global growth, particularly in high-revenue markets such as Saudi Arabia, and bolster its multi-cloud infrastructure with automated failover between AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Federal deployments will use isolated, secure environments to meet stringent government requirements, enabling agencies to authenticate citizens for services such as tax filing.
Looking ahead, 1Kosmos plans to introduce an “identity score” — akin to a credit score — to quantify trustworthiness based on multiple proofing levels, from basic verification to advanced biometric validation. This score could help organizations rapidly assess identity risk when granting access.
