In today's fast-changing digital world, most businesses are turning to artificial intelligence (AI) to update their mainframe systems.
A recent survey shows that 86% of companies are using AI solutions to make their mainframes more efficient, flexible, and cost-effective. This highlights how AI is helping to modernize older systems, allowing businesses to get more value from their mainframes while meeting modern computing demands. However, while modernization is delivering financial benefits, many companies are facing a shortage of skilled workers, making it harder to update complex, critical systems.
As businesses navigate economic pressures, competitive dynamics, technological shifts, and regulatory changes, the demand to modernize and derive new value from their IT estate, including mainframes, is intensifying.
Out of 500 business and IT leaders surveyed, 86% are quickly adopting AI and generative AI to speed up mainframe updates. About one-third said mainframes are now key for running AI-powered tasks, and nearly half plan to use generative AI to turn important mainframe data into useful insights.
Mainframes remain essential in today's hybrid IT environments and are being adapted for new uses, with AI and security playing bigger roles in modernization.
Moving forward, by embracing AI, organizations can unlock new opportunities, address skills shortages, and ensure their mainframes remain pivotal in the evolving hybrid IT landscape.
