India is on the brink of a transformative AI revolution, with plans to launch its own foundational AI model in the coming months. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced the deployment of 18,693 GPUs, strengthening India’s AI infrastructure and advancing its position as a global AI leader. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making AI solutions accessible, affordable, and secure.
A major milestone in this journey is the IndiaAI Mission, approved in March 2024 with a budget of Rs 10,371.92 crore. The mission aims to create a scalable AI computing ecosystem through public-private partnerships, fostering AI research, innovation, and startup growth. AI data centers in Odisha will play a crucial role in enhancing data securityand ensuring self-reliance in AI advancements.
India’s AI push is expected to revolutionize sectors like healthcare, agriculture, and governance. The IndiaAI Innovation Centre will focus on developing Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) to address industry-specific challenges, improving efficiency and decision-making. Additionally, the IndiaAI Datasets Platform will provide startups and researchers with high-quality, non-personal datasets, driving localized AI innovation.
With strong government support, strategic investments, and a commitment to data privacy, India is poised to emerge as a global AI powerhouse. This technological shift promises unprecedented growth, innovation, and opportunities, shaping the future of AI in India for generations to come.
