Nvidia has firmly rejected a recent report alleging that Chinese AI firm DeepSeek used restricted Nvidia chips in violation of U.S. export controls. The company stated that it complies fully with all applicable trade regulations and has not supplied any banned or restricted products to DeepSeek.
The report had claimed that DeepSeek may have accessed advanced Nvidia processors that are subject to U.S. export restrictions, raising concerns about potential loopholes in controls designed to limit China’s access to high-performance AI hardware. Such allegations quickly drew attention, given Nvidia’s dominant role in the global AI chip market and the geopolitical sensitivity surrounding advanced semiconductors.
In response, Nvidia clarified that it closely monitors customers, partners, and distribution channels to ensure compliance with export laws. The company emphasized that any products sold into China are specifically designed to meet regulatory requirements and fall below restricted performance thresholds. Nvidia also noted that it does not support or enable the circumvention of export controls, directly or indirectly.
The controversy highlights broader tensions in the global AI ecosystem, where demand for powerful chips continues to surge even as governments tighten technology controls. Chinese AI companies have increasingly focused on software optimization and alternative hardware strategies to reduce dependence on restricted foreign chips.
As scrutiny of AI supply chains intensifies, Nvidia’s denial underscores the growing pressure on global technology leaders to demonstrate transparency and regulatory compliance in an increasingly fragmented semiconductor landscape.
