Bharti Airtel recorded the highest net wireless subscriber additions in October 2024, according to the latest report from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The company added 1.93 million mobile subscribers during the month, reflecting steady growth amid the changing dynamics of the telecom sector.
The TRAI report highlights Airtel’s remarkable achievement, with the company’s subscriber base growing by 1,928,263 users. This marks a significant milestone for the operator as it continues to expand its presence in the competitive Indian market. In contrast, its competitors faced challenges, with Reliance Jio losing 3.76 million subscribers and Vodafone Idea (Vi) reporting a decline of 1.98 million users. Meanwhile, state-run BSNL gained 501,224 subscribers, and MTNL saw a slight loss of 2,273 users. Overall, the total wireless subscriber base in India experienced a slight decrease of 0.29%, from 1,153.72 million in September to 1,150.42 million in October 2024.
Airtel’s performance stands out in key metrics, particularly in Machine-to-Machine (M2M) connections, where it holds the largest market share of 51.82%, with 29.08 million connections. This is far ahead of its competitors, Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio. In terms of Visitor Location Register (VLR) performance, Airtel also excels, boasting a 99.48% active subscriber rate—the highest among all telecom operators in India. This strong VLR performance underscores Airtel's network reliability and the high quality of its services.
Airtel's continued focus on delivering a superior network experience and innovative services is reflected in its growth. The company remains committed to driving India’s digital transformation, offering robust connectivity solutions that meet the evolving needs of its customers. With its steady subscriber gains, Airtel is well-positioned to lead the telecom market and support India’s growing digital ecosystem.
