Instagram has been flooded by a series of coronavirus-themed photo filters that some users are slamming as “completely inappropriate” given the scope of the deadly disease.
Several dozens user-generated filters that are available on the app with animated effects make it appear users are wearing face masks or have green molecules floating around them.
Another one allows people to play a roulette-style game that determines their probability for coming down with the deadly virus, which has infected more than 108,000 people across the world and caused at least 3,800 deaths.
Several users on Instagram have been criticised for creating coronavirus-themed augmented reality (AR) filters. The filters include face masks, virus molecules floating around and a box that "determines if you'll contract or die from the coronavirus". Many people criticised the filters, with one tweeting, "We're talking about something that is currently killing people! Completely inappropriate."
