The Income Tax Department has issued a warning regarding fraudulent emails that ask for personal information by offering to download e-PAN cards. The advisory emphasizes that the department does not request sensitive data via email and urges citizens to avoid responding to such malicious emails or clicking on such fraudulent links. Recipients are also advised to report any phishing attempts to specified email addresses and to use antivirus and anti-spyware software to protect their devices.
The department also recommends deleting any suspicious messages after reporting them. Sharing sensitive information like PAN details, Aadhaar details or bank credentials through unverified sources can lead to identity theft, financial fraud and misuse of personal data.
It has been clarified repeatedly that no such communication has been issued by any official government agency or the Income Tax Department. The Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) Fact Check Unit has verified that the email is completely fake and misleading, and it has urged the public to avoid clicking on the link or sharing any personal details in response to it.
The fraudulent email reportedly states recipients to download the document and mentions step-by-step guide. This message is creating confusion and may raise concern among many citizens who fear losing access to essential financial services.
"Have you also received an email asking you to download e-PAN Card? This Email is #Fake. Do not respond to any emails, links, calls & SMS asking you to share financial & sensitive information," PIB Fact Check Unit posted on its official X handle.
