Maharashtra is taking a big step toward digital governance and citizen convenience. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that all government-to-citizen (G2C) services will soon be accessible directly on WhatsApp, making it easier for people to avail services without navigating multiple platforms. This initiative will run alongside the existing ‘Aaple Sarkar’ portal, which already delivers more than 997 services online.
Digital Governance Through WhatsApp
Highlighting the state’s commitment to e-governance and digital transformation, Fadnavis emphasized that WhatsApp, being the most widely used messaging platform in India, will serve as a one-stop channel for government services. From applying for certificates and licenses to accessing local municipal services, citizens will be able to interact with government departments seamlessly through the familiar messaging app.
Standardisation and Service Quality
The Chief Minister also directed officials to standardise dashboards across zilla parishads, municipal corporations, and universities, ensuring a uniform and user-friendly experience. To improve transparency, he instructed that third-party agencies conduct independent audits of service delivery. Additionally, Fadnavis stressed reducing documentation requirements to make the application process simpler and faster.
Fadnavis proposed forming clusters of 10–12 villages in each taluka with dedicated teams to ensure timely and localized delivery of citizen services. This model aims to provide efficient, need-based support tailored to rural areas, bridging the digital divide across Maharashtra.
Aaple Sarkar Portal Integration
Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar proposed adding an appeals option within the service delivery system and adopting a multi-channel certificate delivery model via email, portal, and WhatsApp. Currently, the Aaple Sarkar portal hosts 1,001 services, of which 997 are already live. With WhatsApp integration, Maharashtra is poised to become a leader in digital citizen engagement, offering services through multi-modal channels such as email, portal, and WhatsApp.
This Digital India initiative by the Maharashtra government is expected to boost accessibility, transparency, and efficiency, making public services available at citizens’ fingertips.
