Piyush Goyal met senior industry leaders on Thursday, underlining India’s ambition to deepen manufacturing, expand global trade linkages, and accelerate innovation-led growth. The Union Commerce Minister shared updates from the meetings in posts on X.
In discussions with Michael L. Gierges, the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa President of Carrier, the focus was on the company’s rising footprint in India. Conversations covered advanced manufacturing, technology deployment, and ways to enhance localisation across the value chain while strengthening the country’s industrial ecosystem.
Goyal also met Matthew Zielinski, President of International Markets at Lenovo, to review the firm’s expanding operations and long-term engagement with the Indian market.
Earlier in the day, the minister interacted with entrepreneurs at the INDovation MedTech Innovation & Startup Showcase, where he felicitated winners and encouraged innovators to build affordable, scalable healthcare solutions for both domestic and international markets.

Goyal emphasized that India’s recently concluded free trade agreements open unprecedented doors. With arrangements now covering markets that represent close to 70% of global GDP, he said innovators have a powerful opportunity to position India as a trusted global healthcare partner.
He urged startups to think beyond India, participate in international exhibitions, and leverage support from Indian missions abroad. The Commerce Ministry, he added, is ready to back delegations and help founders access developed economies.
At the same time, Goyal reminded entrepreneurs that innovation must remain rooted in everyday national needs. He called on Startup India, industry, and the media to celebrate risk-takers and highlight success stories—even when initial attempts fall short.
The message was clear: build for India, scale for the world.
