STMicroelectronics and Qualcomm Technologies have unveiled the ST67W611M1, the first product from their strategic collaboration aimed at advancing wireless solutions for industrial and consumer IoT applications. This partnership integrates ST's STM32 ecosystem with Qualcomm's wireless connectivity expertise, delivering innovative modules for next-generation IoT development.
The ST67W611M1 features Qualcomm’s QCC743 multiprotocol connectivity system-on-a-chip (SoC), equipped with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and Thread capabilities. Designed for seamless integration with STM32 microcontrollers (MCUs) and microprocessors (MPUs), the module supports the Matter protocol, ensuring compatibility with future connectivity standards. Additional features include 4MB of flash memory for code storage, a 40MHz crystal, and options for integrated or external antennas, enabling streamlined system integration.
"Our collaboration brings Qualcomm’s industry-leading wireless technologies to developers utilizing STM32," said Remi El-Ouazzane, President of Microcontrollers, Digital ICs, and RF Products at STMicroelectronics. "This synergy empowers the STM32 ecosystem with enhanced wireless connectivity solutions."
Rahul Patel, General Manager of Qualcomm Technologies' Connectivity, Broadband, and Networking Business Unit, highlighted the broader vision: "This launch marks the beginning of a journey to create advanced edge processing applications. Our continued collaboration with STMicroelectronics will redefine connected experiences through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AI, and 5G."
The ST67W611M1 prioritizes security with built-in hardware cryptographic accelerators and features such as secure boot and secure debugging, achieving PSA Certified Level 1 protection. Pre-certified to industry standards, the module eliminates the need for user RF design expertise, offering a simplified and cost-effective PCB design process.
Leveraging the STM32 ecosystem’s 4,000+ commercial part numbers and the STM32Cube tools, the module enhances edge AI capabilities with resources like the STM32N6 MCUs featuring ST’s Neural-ART Accelerator and the ST Edge AI Suite. These tools provide optimization frameworks, enabling developers to accelerate AI model deployment.
With its compact 32-lead LGA package, the ST67W611M1 is tailored for a wide range of IoT applications. It integrates seamlessly with STM32 MCUs, which range from power-efficient Cortex-M0+ cores to high-performance Cortex-M4 and Cortex-A7 MPUs. This collaboration promises to redefine IoT development by merging cutting-edge wireless connectivity with robust processing capabilities.
