Tough time ahead for Android Phones
2023-11-14There are a number of reasons why various mobile phone brands are moving out of Android OS. Android is developed and maintained by Google, and Chinese mobile phone brands are increasingly looking to reduce their reliance on the American tech giant. This is due to a number of factors, including geopolitical tensions and the US government's crackdown on Chinese tech companies.
By developing their own operating systems, Chinese mobile phone brands can have more control over the software that runs on their devices. This allows them to customize the software to their own needs and preferences, and to offer unique features and experiences to their users.
Google charges a license fee to mobile phone manufacturers that want to use Android on their devices. By developing their own operating systems, Chinese mobile phone brands can avoid paying this license fee.
There are mobile phone brands that are moving out of Android Operating System:
· Huawei: is developing its own operating system called HarmonyOS.
· Xiaomi: is developing its own operating system called HyperOS.
· Vivo: is developing its own operating system called BlueOS.
· OnePlus: is developing its own operating system called OxygenOS.
It is still too early to say how successful these Chinese-developed operating systems will be. This is a significant trend that is likely to have a major impact on the global smartphone market in the years to come.
A report says, OnePlus is collecting all important information from the phones running on its OxygenOS. This includes data such as device information, app usage data, and user behaviour data. At the same time, Xiaomi is also secretly harvesting information on what users are doing on their phones and is sending the data to remote servers.
Whereas, Huawei says they encrypt all data at rest and in transit, and that it only shares data with third-party partners with the user's consent. However, some users have expressed concerns about the security of Huawei's data collection and storage practices.
Now, Vivo has introduced BlueOS. The company says that BlueOS is its independently developed command operating system for the era of generative AI, and boasts three major aspects.
It is clear that, all the mobile phone companies are data hungry. They say, they collect this data to improve its products and services, and to provide personalized recommendations to users.
Chinese phone makers are gradually becoming independent, as part of securing their consumer base. Now we have to wait and watch on the next move , should Samsung worry about it?
