With Family Protection, Truecaller shifts deeper into communication security by enabling shared family groups, remote scam intervention and stronger protection tools, ahead of its phased global rollout and India launch in early 2026.
Truecaller has launched Family Protection, a significant new feature designed to make scam prevention a collective effort within households. Available on both Android and iOS, the feature allows users to create trusted family groups where members can receive stronger safeguards against fraud and unwanted calls.
Each group can include up to five people and is led by a Family Administrator, who sets safety preferences, manages blocklists, and oversees how suspicious calls are handled. Truecaller said the aim is to simplify protection for less tech-savvy users as scam attempts become more sophisticated.
Real-time alerts and remote support for safer communication
On Android devices, the Family Administrator gains access to enhanced support tools—allowing them to receive scam alerts during active calls and even end a suspicious call remotely. The system also shows indicators such as device battery levels, phone activity, and user availability, giving families better visibility into the digital safety of their loved ones.
These tools, Truecaller noted, are intended to offer reassurance while enabling timely intervention when a family member encounters a potentially harmful call.
“Truecaller is already being used by members of the family, and now we empower the ‘CTO’ of the family to protect the less tech-savvy members,” said Rishit Jhunjhunwala, CEO of Truecaller. “As scam tactics evolve, we want Truecaller to be the platform families rely on for peace of mind and proactive protection.”
Boosting engagement and supporting premium adoption
While Family Protection is offered for free, the company sees it as a strategic lever to deepen engagement and expand long-term revenue opportunities. The feature naturally complements Truecaller Premium Family, a subscription plan covering up to five members with advanced spam blocking, automatic rejection of high-risk numbers, and an ad-free experience.
By encouraging more households to rely on Truecaller for shared security, the company aims to strengthen user stickiness and drive the adoption of its premium tier.
Phased rollout ahead of India launch in 2026
The feature is initially rolling out in Sweden, Chile, Malaysia, and Kenya, with the India launch scheduled for Q1 2026. Truecaller said the phased rollout will help refine the experience before expanding to its largest user base.
Family Protection marks a key milestone in Truecaller’s shift from caller ID services to a broader communication safety ecosystem, reinforcing its vision for smarter and more secure digital interactions.
