2019-12-31
Wyze has revealed that it was hit by a data leak which in turn has exposed the personal information of more than 2.4 million of its customers. Wyze is a security camera start-up.
The data breach took place when it was "accidentally" left exposed during transferring data to a new database to make the data easier to query. As per news source, a company employee during the process failed to maintain previous security protocols.
In this data breach information about user’s height, weight, gender and other health information were leaked. About 140 beta users participated in testing of new hardware. The company said there was no evidence that login tokens had been exposed but signed out all users to generate new tokens. Customers can also expect their cameras to automatically reboot in the coming days due to an additional security action, the report added.
The company also said that it takes its product security seriously and will reassess its procedures.
