It is a common practice for cyber criminals to first attack the password to hack any user's data. They get access into accounts by trying to break the user's password and steal details in order to misuse it. It becomes very easy for a password to be hacked at times as people are very careless when it comes to deciding on their passwords.
As per a research conducted by cybersecurity firm ImmuniWeb, about 16 million out of 21 million accounts of 500 best companies of the world were hacked as it contained plain text password. However, out of these 2.10 crore accounts, 49 lakh account passwords were unique. This means that it was not easy to hack them. At the same time, most accounts had passwords that were very easy to hack. There were 32 passwords in them, which can be easily hacked.
Those 32 passwords are -
000000, 111111, 112233, 123456, 12345678, 123456789, 1qaz2wsx, 3154061, 456a33, 66936455, 789_234, aaaaaa, abc123, career121, carrier, comdy, cheer!, Cheesy, Exigent, old123ma, openses Includes pass1, passer, passw0rd, password, password1, penispenis, snowman,! qaz1qaz, soccer1, student and welcome.
While we think that by keeping our password easy, we can remember it when required but we tend to forget that it also makes the work of hackers easy. Users also use the name of their wife/ husband, children, girlfriends, boyfriends, birth date on social media handles. It reduces account safety and something that one can guess very easily.
While creating an account password, one should not keep any consecutive numbers or letters. Special characters should be used, while also making sure that the password is alphanumeric. Keep in mind that if you create a simple password, the risk of your account getting hacked can increase up to 200 times.
