5G wireless revolution to come in 2019
2018-06-22
With the digitalization will continue to transform our industries, lives and society. The Fifth-generation wireless (5G) , is the latest technology, engineered to greatly increase the speed and responsiveness of wireless networks as the Mobile systems acting as a backbone for both the Internet of Things (IoT) and a rapidly expanding range of digital services. We believe that The 5G system will enable many new use cases that will make the critical role of mobile systems even more apparent than it is now.
Among the key 5G telecom companies are Sweden’s Ericsson, Finland’s Nokia, Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE, South Korea’s Samsung, Japanese companies NEC, Fujitsu and Sumitomo and American multinationals Qualcomm and Intel.
With 5G, data transmitted over wireless broadband connections could travel at rates as high as 20 Gbps and 5G will also enable a sharp increase in the amount of data transmitted over wireless systems due to more available bandwidth and advanced antenna technology. Network operators are expected to spend billions of dollars on 5G capital expenses through 2030. It is important to realize that OTT security solutions – such as a secure session between an industrial process remote monitoring camera and a control server, for example – are insufficient by themselves regardless of how strong the end to-end encryption is. Several security aspects cannot be adequately handled on the application layer. The availability of the camera service would still suffer if the underlying communications network fails to deliver data due to a cyberattack.
(5G use cases)
The above picture illustrates the wide variety of use cases and applications that will rely on 5G mobile networks for communication. Some of the applications are simple over-the-top (OTT) applications, which require only best effort communications. Others demand a complete vertical perspective and have stringent requirements on the underlying communication Examples of the latter are medical applications, factory automation use cases and telecommunication services. Because these different use cases may share resources in the mobile network, cyberattacks against one may affect others. The more society depends on digitalized services, the more cyber threats against these services increase.
The advantages of 5G networks and services will be deployed in stages over the next several years to accommodate the increasing reliance on mobile and internet-enabled devices and 5G is expected to generate a variety of new applications, uses and business cases as the technology is rolled out. 5G offers telecom operators an opportunity to help manufacturers build smart factories and take full advantage of technologies like automation, artificial intelligence, augmented reality and IoT.
5G cellular services will provide user access to operators' 5G cellular networks. These services will begin to be rolled out in 2019. The 5G system will build upon the 4G LTE technology to significantly increase connection and browsing speeds. Data transfer speeds will increase, which means it won’t take as long to share Ultra HD or 3D videos, HDR-quality photos and more.
5G fixed wireless broadband services deliver internet access to homes and businesses without a wired connection to the premises. Fixed broadband services are expected to make it less expensive for operators to deliver broadband services to homes and businesses because this approach eliminates the need to roll out fiber optic lines to every residence. Instead, operators need only install fiber optics to cell sites, and customers receive broadband services through wireless modems located in their residences or businesses.
Lastly, 5G will provide about 50 times the throughput of current 4G LTE, latency in the single milliseconds. In turn, it will be able to “handle exponentially more Internet-connected devices” which will bring revolution for the Internet of Everything. Analysts say the focus is not about getting faster cell phones - it is about shaping the development of technology that will influence everyone’s lives by the 2020s and beyond.
