Apple planning ‘MacBook Ultra’ as new premium laptop tier

Apple may introduce a new ultra-premium MacBook with an OLED touchscreen display and next-generation chips, potentially launching by 2026 and positioning itself above the current MacBook Pro lineup.

Apple Inc. is reportedly preparing to expand its Mac lineup with a new high-end laptop that could be branded as the “MacBook Ultra.” According to industry reports, the device could debut by late 2026 and may introduce several major hardware upgrades.

The upcoming laptop is expected to feature an OLED touchscreen display — a combination that has not yet appeared on any Mac device. While OLED technology has been used in products such as the iPad Pro, Mac computers have traditionally relied on standard LCD panels and have not supported touch input.

The reported model could also run on next-generation Apple silicon processors, potentially the M6 Pro or M6 Max chips. Unlike typical Mac updates that primarily focus on processor improvements, the new device is expected to bring a broader redesign and new capabilities.

A new tier above MacBook Pro

Industry analysts suggest the proposed laptop would not replace the existing MacBook Pro lineup. Instead, it may create an entirely new premium category positioned above the company’s current professional laptops.

Such a move would mirror Apple’s strategy in other product segments where the company has introduced “Ultra” branding to represent top-tier performance models. If introduced, the MacBook Ultra could become the most powerful and expensive Mac laptop in the company’s portfolio.

Apple expands both budget and premium options

The potential launch of a MacBook Ultra reflects a broader shift in Apple’s product strategy. While the company has recently explored more affordable laptop options, it is also strengthening its focus on premium devices designed for professionals and advanced users.

Reports also suggest that Apple is working on several other high-end innovations, including a foldable iPhone and new AirPods equipped with advanced sensors and camera-based capabilities.
