Bank of Baroda and Reliance Jio have partnered to launch bob World Lite, a mobile banking application designed specifically for feature phone users, marking a push toward expanding digital banking access in India.
The app will be available on the JioPhone Prima 4G and comes pre-loaded on the device, enabling users to access banking services directly from the home screen. Existing users can also download it via the JioStore.
Unlike conventional apps built for smartphones, bob World Lite is optimized for low-bandwidth environments and keypad-based navigation, making it suitable for users in semi-urban and rural areas. The platform offers core banking features such as UPI-based payments, money transfers, bill payments, recharges, and profile management, with additional functionalities expected to be added over time.
Debadatta Chand said the initiative is aimed at extending digital banking beyond smartphone users and helping bridge the digital divide by enabling secure and accessible financial services for a broader population.
Sunil Dutt highlighted that the partnership builds on Jio’s efforts to expand affordable digital services across India, with feature phones playing a key role in reaching underserved segments.
The app will be available not only to Bank of Baroda customers but also to users of other banks through a self-onboarding process, further widening its potential reach.
The collaboration aligns with the broader vision of the Government of India and the Reserve Bank of India to drive financial inclusion and promote digital payments among feature phone users.
By combining Jio’s extensive digital reach with Bank of Baroda’s nationwide banking network, the initiative is expected to significantly boost adoption of digital financial services among millions of users who are not yet part of the smartphone ecosystem.
