This initiative is part of a broader national push for blockchain adoption, as the Centre through MeitY has launched the Vishvasya Blockchain Technology Stack and the National Blockchain Framework, which aims to accelerate the development and deployment of blockchain applications, focusing on security, privacy, and interoperability
In a pioneering move aimed at bolstering transparency and efficiency, Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh has adopted blockchain technology to secure its land records. This initiative, a collaboration between the district administration and Bengaluru-based Zupple Labs, has successfully migrated over 700,000 land records, some stretching back to the 1950s, onto the Avalanche blockchain, demonstrating significant Chhattisgarh blockchain adoption.
The core objective is to eliminate the long-standing issue of Dantewada land record tampering and to drastically reduce the time required for verification. Previously, citizens often faced weeks of delays in accessing and verifying their property documents. Now, with the implementation of Zupple Labs' LegitDoc platform, these records are securely stored and easily accessible, marking a major step in Chhattisgarh land digitization.
District Collector Mayank Chaturvedi emphasized the transformative nature of this project, stating that it ensures both accessibility and tamper-proof security. To further streamline access, dedicated kiosks are being established across all tehsils in Dantewada, providing residents with quick retrieval of necessary documents. This Chhattisgarh Dantewada blockchain project serves as a model for other districts.
LegitDoc and the national blockchain push
LegitDoc empowers tehsil-level revenue officers to efficiently verify various government records, including mutation logs, plot registries, ownership details, cadastral maps, and records of rights. This technology has proven its efficacy in previous state-level initiatives in Maharashtra, where it was utilized for issuing blockchain-based certificates and facilitating e-registration of property agreements.
This initiative is part of a broader national push for blockchain adoption. The central government, through the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has launched the Vishvasya Blockchain Technology Stack and the National Blockchain Framework. These frameworks aim to accelerate the development and deployment of blockchain applications, focusing on security, privacy, and interoperability.
The National Blockchain Framework's "Blockchain as a Service" (BaaS) model underscores the government's commitment to leveraging this technology for enhanced digital governance and public service delivery.See What’s Next in Tech With the Fast Forward Newsletter
