Constl, a subsidiary of Space World Group, has deployed Ciena’s WaveLogic 6 Extreme (WL6e) technology to expand its high-capacity terrestrial fiber network and meet the growing demands of India’s digital and AI-driven economy. The rollout follows a successful live trial in which Constl achieved a 1 Tbps line rate on a single optical channel over the 1,450-km Mumbai–Chennai corridor—one of the country’s busiest data routes—without requiring signal regeneration.
Constl, founded in 2023, has rapidly built out more than 12,000 km of fiber and connected around 100 data centers across 13 cities. The company relies on Ciena’s optical networking technology to support bandwidth-intensive workloads and hyperscaler requirements as India accelerates cloud adoption, AI deployment, and data center expansion.
“This milestone positions us to expand our terrestrial fibre network and deliver high-capacity 800GbE services for the AI era,” said Ankit Goel, Chairman and Founder of Space World Group. He added that Ciena’s optical solutions have played a critical role in Constl’s nationwide expansion over the past two years.
Ciena said the deployment underscores the growing need for ultra-high-capacity backbone networks capable of handling AI, cloud and enterprise traffic. “Constl is committed to developing networks tailored to hyperscaler requirements, and Ciena’s coherent optics are recognized as the best-in-class platform for high-capacity AI services,” said Amit Malik, Vice President & General Manager for Asia Pacific, Japan and India at Ciena. “Together, we are driving next-generation connectivity to support India’s digital future and AI ambitions.”
With WL6e, Constl is doubling the capacity of each fiber wavelength from 800 Gb/s to 1.6 Tb/s compared to its earlier WaveLogic 5 Extreme deployment. The upgrade also improves spectral efficiency, lowers power consumption and reduces overall cost per bit—key advantages for operators supporting data-intensive cloud and AI workloads.
Beyond showcasing the capabilities of WL6e, the trial validates the quality and readiness of Constl’s fiber infrastructure as the company positions itself to serve hyperscalers, enterprises, and data center operators seeking scalable, energy-efficient connectivity across India.
