The cybersecurity organization CyberPeace issued a critical alert after a massive data breach which involved the Ministry of Defence. Almost 1.8 million records were allegedly compromised and for $3,000 they are now on sale on underground forums. The compromised data includes sensitive information such as names, phone numbers, personnel codes, passwords, and more.
In the primary investigation, it is revealed that the breach occurred due to a vulnerability in the National Informatics Centre (NIC) systems, leading to an SQL security breach. Serious concerns are raised regarding the security measures that are in place to protect critical government data. The breach’s exposure of sensitive personal details emphasizes the critical need for enhanced cybersecurity protocols and immediate remediation efforts. The data breach’s magnitude and the sensitive nature of the compromised information highlight the potential risks and threats to national security. CyberPeace has emphasized the urgency of addressing the vulnerabilities that led to this breach. They urge immediate action to enhance security protocols and safeguard sensitive data from further attacks.
“This breach underscores the critical need for robust cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive information. It is imperative for organizations, especially those handling critical government data, to continually assess and strengthen their security frameworks. CyberPeace is also working closely to investigate the breach and prevent future incidents. They are committed to helping organizations improve their cybersecurity posture and protect against emerging threats,” said Major Vineet Kumar, Global President and Founder of CyberPeace.
