Digital Connexion, the joint venture backed by Reliance Industries, has announced a massive ₹98,000 crore investmentto develop 1 gigawatt (GW) of data centre capacity in Andhra Pradesh. This marks one of India’s largest commitments in the digital infrastructure sector and positions the state as a rising hub for global data processing and AI workloads.
The investment will be centred in Visakhapatnam, where the company plans to build an AI-ready data centre park capable of supporting next-generation computing, cloud services, and large-scale enterprise workloads. Andhra Pradesh’s strategic location, reliable power availability, and growing submarine cable connectivity make it an ideal destination for hyperscale data centre expansion.
The surge in demand for digital infrastructure has been fuelled by rapid 5G rollout, widespread digitisation, and skyrocketing AI and machine learning adoption across industries. With global hyperscalers such as Google and AWS already expanding their commitments in India, Digital Connexion’s entry significantly strengthens the country’s position in the global data centre market.
Industry experts highlight that Andhra Pradesh is emerging as a major alternative to traditional hubs like Mumbai and Chennai, especially due to its potential as a landing point for subsea cables and its supportive policy ecosystem.
The project is expected to generate substantial employment opportunities, drive regional economic development, and provide critical backbone infrastructure for India’s digital economy. As demand for cloud, compute, and AI capacity accelerates, this investment marks a major milestone in India’s mission to become a global data centre powerhouse.
