India’s mobile phone exports have crossed ₹1,50,000 crore in FY 2024-25, marking a significant surge from ₹1,29,000 crore in FY 2023-24, according to the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA).
In January 2025 alone, exports exceeded ₹25,000 crore, reflecting the sector’s rapid growth and global competitiveness.
The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme has played a pivotal role in boosting India’s mobile manufacturing sector.
Mobile phone production has doubled, rising from ₹2,20,000 crore in FY23-24 to ₹4,22,000 crore in FY24-25, with further projections indicating a jump to ₹5,10,000 crore by the end of the fiscal year.
This rapid expansion positions India as a key global manufacturing hub.
ICEA estimates that mobile phone exports will exceed ₹1,80,000 crore in FY24-25, representing a 40% year-on-year growth and an astounding 680% rise since the inception of the PLI scheme in FY 2020-21. This exponential increase reflects India's growing capability in high-value electronics exports.
Moving forward, the next phase of growth will focus on enhancing competitiveness, scaling production, and strengthening the supply chain.
The goal is to increase domestic value addition and integrate deeper into the global value chain, contributing to India's ambitious $500 billion electronics manufacturing target.
The PLI scheme has not only boosted exports but also created jobs across the sector. With global giants like Apple and Samsung expanding production in India, the country is fast emerging as a major smartphone exporter.
India’s smartphone exports are expected to surpass traditional export commodities, making them the country’s top export category for the first time.
This shift will strengthen India’s position as a leading player in the global electronics market.
With government incentives, industry collaboration, and rising global demand, India is well on track to achieve its vision of becoming the world’s largest smartphone exporter, further solidifying its place in the global electronics supply chain.
